Mock Test 7 — an NDIS plan review and a myID identity setup

Be clear before you start: this paper is above exam standard, and it is above it on purpose. Almost every content word in both dialogues is the name of an Australian government product — Core supports, reasonable and necessary, plan management, Identity Strength, Strong, ABN, BAS — and Tamil has an equivalent for none of them. That leaves you two moves on every line: carry the English term in Tamil and let the speaker's own explanation do the explaining, or invent a Tamil phrase that sounds tidy and tells the listener nothing they can act on. The real test will hand you one dense dialogue and one merciful one. Sitting a paper where both halves are dense is how you find out whether your terminology strategy is a decision or a habit.

Sit this paper like the real test
Model answers stay hidden. You’ll hear one segment at a time, interpret it out loud, then either record yourself for an automatic NAATI-style mark or reveal the answer and mark yourself. At the end you get a real 90-mark result against NAATI's actual pass rule.

Why these two topics appear together
Disability services and government digital services land on the same paper more often than candidates expect, because both are simply an official explaining to a community member how a system will treat them. The pairing is unusual in being dense on both sides, and that is what makes it diagnostic. The NDIS half punishes you for blurring two administrative categories that sound alike — self-management against plan-management — while the myID half punishes you for treating Standard and Strong as adjectives instead of the fixed level names they are. Both failures come from the same instinct: smoothing an unfamiliar label into ordinary language. One paper, two chances to catch yourself doing it.
What the examiner is listening for
- 01Scheme labels arriving as labels. கோர் சப்போர்ட்ஸ், கேபாசிட்டி-பில்டிங் சப்போர்ட்ஸ் and ரீஸனபிள் அண்ட் நெசஸரி are the names of funding categories and a statutory test; a graceful paraphrase of any of them is scored as a distortion, not as style.
- 02Level names never softened into descriptions. ஸ்டாண்டர்ட் and ஸ்ட்ராங் are rungs on the myID Identity Strength ladder, so "only a standard account" is a fact and "only a basic sort of account" is an invention the grader can see.
- 03Every figure in the order it was said: பத்து மணி நேரம் rising to இருபது மணி நேரம் of support a week, the பதினைந்தாயிரம் டாலர் threshold above which assistive technology needs a quote, the பதினான்காம் ஆகஸ்ட் plan end date, பன்னிரண்டு மாதங்கள் of plan duration, எட்டு வருடம் of passport photo and இரண்டு முறை of failed face match.
- 04Two-part questions surviving in full. Four separate turns across this paper ask two things at once, and the second half is where the marks quietly go — including the tag question இல்லையா, which has to stay a question.
- 05Exclusions and conditions delivered at full strength. The NDIS not funding வாடகை or மளிகை, and the ATO not releasing business tax information at ஸ்டாண்டர்ட், are the load-bearing sentences of their segments; hedging either one changes what the official actually said.
- 06One consistent formal register on both sides. Neither Tamil speaker ever drops out of the formal register with an official, and the myID client's -ங்க suffix is a politeness marker that vanishes into English — turning it into "sir" adds a word nobody said.
Where candidates lose marks on this paper
Each of these is a real line below. Tap through to see it in full.
Dialogue 1 · Participant · jump to the line
The trap. Translating முதுகெலும்பு காயம் word by word as a back or backbone injury, and losing பத்து மணி நேரம் while you hunt for the phrase.
The fix. Everyday Tamil names the bone; clinical English names the cord. Say "spinal cord injury", then give the ten hours a week and the fact that bathing and dressing are now affected — three facts, one segment.
Dialogue 1 · NDIS planner · jump to the line
The trap. Rendering ரீஸனபிள் அண்ட் நெசஸரி as something reasonable-sounding in Tamil, then dropping the sentence about rent and groceries because the good news already felt complete.
The fix. Keep the legal test as the named test the planner invoked, carry the jump from பத்து மணி நேரம் to இருபது மணி நேரம், and finish with the exclusion: the NDIS does not pay வாடகை or மளிகை. The exclusion is the segment's most-omitted line.
Dialogue 1 · NDIS planner · jump to the line
The trap. Merging self-management and plan-management into one vague idea about someone helping with money, and dropping எந்தச் செலவும் இல்லாமல் — the fact that a plan manager costs the participant nothing.
The fix. These are two answers to two questions. Self-manage: full choice, unregistered workers allowed, receipts and paperwork are yours. Plan-managed: the manager pays invoices at no cost to you, and you still choose your own providers.
Dialogue 1 · NDIS planner · jump to the line
The trap. Translating 'ஃபைண்டிங் அண்ட் கீப்பிங் அ ஜாப்' into a description of job-seeking help, and rounding away the பதினைந்தாயிரம் டாலர் quote threshold as "expensive equipment".
The fix. It is the name of a funded support — say it as a name. Then keep the threshold as a figure: assistive technology above fifteen thousand dollars needs a quote. Named support plus exact number is where both marks in this segment sit.
Dialogue 2 · Business owner · jump to the line
The trap. Collapsing மைகவ் and மை ஐ.டி. into one "government app", or downgrading ஸ்டாண்டர்ட் into an adjective like ordinary or basic.
The fix. Two different things: myGov is the website he tried last time, myID is the app being set up now. Keep both names, and report the level as "my Identity Strength was only Standard" so the reason he was blocked stays visible.
Dialogue 2 · Digital support officer · jump to the line
The trap. Softening இரண்டு முறை into "a few times" and stopping at "the beard is usually fine", so the consequence chain never arrives.
The fix. Three things travel here: the check compares a live selfie to the passport photo, a beard is usually fine, and two failed matches lock that option and force in-person verification. Note the digit 2 the moment you hear it.
Dialogue 2 · Digital support officer · jump to the line
The trap. Turning the ATO's refusal into a vague passive and losing the ஒரே ஒரு முறை against ஒவ்வொரு காலாண்டிலும் contrast that answers the client's second question.
The fix. Keep the ATO as the active subject: at Standard it will not release a business's tax information. Then hold the two-part answer — the face check happens once, the myID log-in happens every quarter.
Dialogue 2 · Business owner · jump to the line
The trap. Flattening இன்றே, இந்த காலாண்டோட and சரியான நேரத்தில் into a general intention to sort the paperwork out soon, or reducing பி.ஏ.எஸ். to a generic tax form.
The fix. The suffix -ஏ is doing real work here — இன்றே (today itself), இந்த காலாண்டோட (this quarter's), சரியான நேரத்தில் (on time). Render all three, and keep ஏ.பி.என். and பி.ஏ.எஸ். as letter-by-letter acronyms rather than paraphrasing either into a description.
Pacing this paper
Segments run from 30 to 46 words, and the two longest are the community members' own turns, not the officials' — dlg-disability-1-s2, where the participant packs his diagnosis, his current support hours and his new needs into one breath, and dlg-technology-2-s6, where the business owner asks two separate questions back to back. On a paper this jargon-heavy the temptation is to pause and search for a Tamil equivalent that does not exist; that search is the single biggest time sink here. Decide now that unfamiliar scheme names get carried across as names, and spend your thinking time on the numbers instead. Write digits and arrows only — 10→20, 15k, 8yr, ×2 — and start speaking within about fifteen seconds of the chime. Ten minutes a dialogue, no going back.

NDIS Plan Review: Core vs Capacity-Building, Self-Management and Reasonable-and-Necessary Funding
An NDIS planner conducts a plan review for a Tamil-speaking adult with a spinal cord injury, working through Core versus Capacity-Building supports, self-management versus plan-management, employment goals and reasonable-and-necessary funding.

Welcome to your plan review. Your current plan ends on the fourteenth of August, so today we'll set new goals and decide your funding. Your plan has two main parts: Core supports for daily needs, and Capacity-Building supports to build your independence.

Model answer
Because of my spinal cord injury I use a wheelchair. Last year I only got ten hours of support worker time a week, but now my condition has worsened and I need help even with bathing and getting dressed.
spinal cord injury முதுகுத்தண்டு நரம்பு காயம்mudhugudhandu narambu kaayamsupport worker சப்போர்ட் வொர்க்கர்support worker💡 Number: பத்து மணிநேரம் a week. 'முதுகெலும்பு காயம்' is the everyday phrase people actually use; render it medically as 'spinal cord injury', not literally as 'back-bone injury' — the model uses முதுகுத்தண்டு நரம்பு காயம். 'கூட' carries the 'even with bathing and dressing' force.
- Segment 3 · NDIS planner · 39 wordsEnglish → Tamil
I understand. Under the 'reasonable and necessary' rules, we can increase your personal-care funding. I'll allocate funding for twenty hours a week of support worker time, plus physiotherapy. But the NDIS won't cover everyday costs like rent or groceries.
Model answer

Keep ரீஸனபிள் அண்ட் நெசஸரி as the NDIS legal test, not a paraphrase like 'நியாயமானது'. The rent/groceries exclusion is the sentence candidates most often drop.
- Segment 4 · Participant · 25 wordsTamil → English

Model answer
I have two questions. First, can I manage my own funding or not? And second, can I hire any support worker, even if they aren't registered? I want someone who speaks Tamil.
self-manage funding ஃபண்டை நீங்களே மேனேஜ் பண்ணுவதுfundai neengale manage pannuvadhuregistered (provider) ரெஜிஸ்டர் செய்யப்பட்டregister seiyappatta💡 Two distinct questions — both must be rendered, including the 'or not' (முடியாதா) that makes the first one a genuine either/or. 'Registered' here means an NDIS-registered provider.
- Segment 5 · NDIS planner · 43 wordsEnglish → Tamil
Good questions. If you self-manage, you have full choice, can use unregistered workers, but you must keep receipts and handle the paperwork. If you choose plan-management, a plan manager pays your invoices at no cost, and you can still pick your own providers.
Model answer

The 'at no cost' point (எந்தச் செலவும் இல்லாமல், because plan management is funded separately) is easily dropped.
- Segment 6 · Participant · 24 wordsTamil → English

goal இலக்குilakkureturn to work வேலைக்குத் திரும்புவதுvelaikkuth thirumbuvadhu💡 The participant chooses plan-management and states an employment goal. Keep the goal precise so it links to Capacity-Building in the next turn. 'காகிதப் பணிகளை என்னால் சமாளிக்க முடியாது' is 'I can't handle the paperwork', not 'I won't do it'.
- Segment 7 · NDIS planner · 38 wordsEnglish → Tamil
Absolutely. That employment goal fits under Capacity-Building. I'll fund a support-coordination service and 'Finding and Keeping a Job' supports. We'll also add funding for a new wheelchair assessment, since assistive technology over fifteen thousand dollars needs a quote.
Model answer

'Finding and Keeping a Job' is a named NDIS support — keep it as that name, written ஃபைண்டிங் அண்ட் கீப்பிங் அ ஜாப் so the audio says it rather than mangling Latin letters.
- Segment 8 · Participant · 27 wordsTamil → English

Thank you so much, I'm very relieved to hear this. So my new plan will run for twelve months, is that right? And if my condition changes again, can I request an early review before it ends?
relieved / relief நிம்மதிnimmadhiearly review முன்கூட்டிய ரிவியூmunkoottiya review💡 Number: the பன்னிரண்டு மாதம் plan duration. Setting Up myID for ATO Business Services
A Services Australia digital support officer walks a Tamil-speaking small-business owner through installing the myID app, raising his Identity Strength to Strong by verifying two documents plus a face check, so he can link his ABN and lodge his BAS.

Standard only confirms your details on paper, so the ATO won't release a business's tax information at that level. Once you're Strong, the face check is one-off. After that you just log in with myID each quarter.

Questions about this mock test
- Why is this mock test harder than the real CCL exam?
- Because both dialogues are terminology-dense at the same time, which a real paper usually avoids. NAATI tends to balance a technical dialogue against a more conversational one, so a candidate who copes with jargon in one half gets breathing room in the other. Here there is no breathing room, which is useful for practice and unrepresentative of the day.
- Should I translate NDIS and myID terms into Tamil?
- No. Carry them across as the terms the community actually says, written in Tamil — கோர் சப்போர்ட்ஸ், கேபாசிட்டி-பில்டிங் சப்போர்ட்ஸ், மை ஐ. — and let the speaker's own explanation carry the meaning, because the speaker always explains. An invented Tamil equivalent sounds fluent and leaves the listener unable to repeat the term to the agency, which is what the marking is protecting against.
- How do I say acronyms like NDIS, ABN and BAS?
- Letter by letter, in Tamil phonology: என்.டி.ஐ. பி. ஏ. Spelling them out is what makes them findable for the listener on a form or a website. Do not expand an acronym the speaker did not expand, and do not merge two of them — an ABN is a business number and a BAS is the quarterly statement you lodge against it.
- Does a harder paper have a different pass mark?
- No. Every CCL paper is marked the same way: 45 marks per dialogue, 90 in total, 63 to pass, and at least 29 on each dialogue regardless of how the other one went. If you score 58 on this paper, read that as a diagnosis of your terminology handling rather than as a prediction of your result.
- I have never used myID or dealt with the NDIS. Is that a problem?
- Not for the marking, but it is a problem for your speed. You are never asked to know how a scheme works — you are asked to move what the official said intact. Reading each dialogue's scenario and glossary once before you sit it removes the panic pause on first hearing an unfamiliar name, and that pause is what costs you the detail two clauses later.
- What should I do after failing a paper like this one?
- Mark it by segment, not by feel. List every scheme name you paraphrased and every number you rounded, and you will usually find fewer than ten distinct errors repeated across sixteen segments. Fix those, then sit an exam-standard paper to confirm the habit has actually changed under normal conditions.
