தNAATI Tamil

The NAATI CCL Tamil syllabus

Not a list of topics — a path. 20 numbered steps grouped into 6 stages, in the order you should actually do them: learn the test, drill the mechanics, work every domain, then prove the pass under exam conditions.

How the path works

Each stage assumes the one before it. Skipping ahead is allowed — every lesson is unlocked in order but nothing is gated — though the stages exist because candidates who take them out of order lose marks on mechanics, not knowledge.

Stage 1 of 6

Orientation

Understand the test before you practise for it

1 step · 33 lessons · 2h 12m

Watch the course end to end. It maps the whole exam — the format, the marking sheet, and the techniques that separate a 60 from a 70 — so every hour of practice after this is aimed at something.

By the end you can

  • Describe the exam format: two dialogues, ~300 words each, 45 marks apiece
  • Name the three things examiners deduct for — omission, distortion, addition
  • Know the 63/90 pass mark and the 29-per-dialogue minimum

Move on when

You can explain how a CCL dialogue is marked and what loses marks, without looking it up.

Stage 2 of 6

Foundations

Drill the micro-skills until they're automatic

1 step · 8 lessons · 1h 6m

Short interactive drills, one skill at a time. These are the mechanics every dialogue depends on — if chunking and numbers aren't automatic, no amount of vocabulary saves you on test day.

By the end you can

  • Break speech into chunks and hold them to the end of the segment
  • Take shorthand notes that survive a 35-word burst
  • Render numbers, dates, money and addresses without slipping
  • Stay in first-person direct speech and the right register

Move on when

You can hold a 35-word segment and give it back without losing a number, name or date.

  1. Step 2Foundations8 freeBuild the core interpreting micro-skills — chunking, memory, notes, numbers, register and accuracy — through short interactive drills before you tackle full dialogues.8 skill drills · 1h 6m

Stage 3 of 6

Exam strategy

Learn where the marks actually go

1 step · 9 lessons · 1h 3m

Nine short strategy lessons on the marking system itself: how segments are scored, what counts as a distortion, when to ask for a repeat, and how to recover from a segment that went wrong instead of losing the next one too.

By the end you can

  • Read your own answer the way an examiner marks it
  • Use your one repeat request at the right moment
  • Recover from a bad segment without dropping the next one

Move on when

You know what to do in the two seconds after you realise you've missed something.

Stage 4 of 6

Core domains

The eight settings the exam draws from most

8 steps · 160 lessons · 33h 39m

Each domain runs the same shape: gentle warm-ups, then full CCL-length dialogues, a vocabulary deck, and a domain mock to close it out. Work through them in order — the difficulty ramps within each one.

By the end you can

  • Interpret full ~300-word dialogues in both directions
  • Carry the specialist vocabulary of each setting under time pressure
  • Handle the register shifts between a doctor, a police officer and a caseworker

Move on when

You can sit any one of these domain mocks and clear 29/45 on both dialogues.

Stage 5 of 6

Extended domains

Close the gaps the exam can still surprise you with

8 steps · 80 lessons · 18h 40m

Less common but entirely fair game: consumer disputes, insurance claims, NDIS and aged care, property, transport, digital government, small business and family services. This is where a well-prepared candidate stops being surprised.

By the end you can

  • Interpret in settings most candidates never rehearse
  • Recognise Australian systems by name — ACL, NDIS, myGov, ABN, GST
  • Improvise safely when a term has no clean Tamil equivalent

Move on when

No topic on the syllabus makes your stomach drop when you read it.

Exam simulation

Sit it, score it, repeat until the pass is boring

1 step · 103 lessons · 37h 16m

Full two-dialogue mock tests under real conditions: no pausing, no replaying, marked out of 90. Sit one early to get the shock over with, then use the rest to prove the pass is repeatable rather than lucky.

By the end you can

  • Sustain concentration across two back-to-back dialogues
  • Pace yourself without the safety net of a pause button
  • Read your own score breakdown and know exactly what to fix next

Move on when

You've cleared 63/90 on three consecutive mocks, with 29+ on each dialogue.

Two ways to pace it

Same six stages, different speeds. Pick by how far away your test date is — and if you haven't booked one yet, book it first. A date makes the plan real.

4-week sprint

For a booked test date that's close. Demanding but survivable.

8–10 hours a week
  1. Week 1 — Orientation + Foundations

    • Watch Modules 0–2 of the course
    • Finish all eight Foundations drills
    • Sit one starter mock cold — just to see the shape of it
  2. Week 2 — Strategy + first four core domains

    • Work through all nine strategy lessons
    • Health, Legal, Banking and Education — warm-ups then full dialogues
    • Review every dialogue against the model answer before moving on
  3. Week 3 — Remaining core domains + weak spots

    • Employment, Social Services, Immigration and Local Government
    • Add any extended domain your mocks keep punishing you on
    • Re-drill numbers and dates daily — ten minutes, every day
  4. Week 4 — Exam simulation

    • One full mock per day under real conditions
    • Review each score breakdown and fix one named weakness
    • Rest the day before the test — no new material

8-week steady

The version we'd actually recommend. Room to consolidate.

4–5 hours a week
  1. Weeks 1–2 — Orientation

    • Watch the course modules in order, doing every quick-check
    • Set your test date and work backwards from it
  2. Weeks 3–4 — Foundations + Strategy

    • All eight Foundations drills, repeating any you don't ace
    • All nine strategy lessons
    • One starter mock at the end of week 4
  3. Weeks 5–6 — Core domains

    • Four core domains a week, warm-ups first
    • Finish each domain with its vocabulary deck and domain mock
  4. Week 7 — Extended domains

    • Sweep the eight extended domains — dialogues only
    • Keep a running list of terms you fumbled
  5. Week 8 — Exam simulation

    • Three to four full mocks under real conditions
    • Stop when you've cleared 63/90 three times in a row
