NAATI CCL Tamil Banking Vocabulary: நீங்க, Loans, Super & Fraud

NAATI CCL Tamil banking vocabulary that's actually about to be tested: why every banking dialogue stays on நீங்க with no middle rung, real accounts/loan/super/tax terms, the lakh-vs-million split, and the two everyday words for interest — வட்டி and பலிசை — that both sit this exam.

Before a single vocabulary word is at stake, a NAATI CCL Tamil banking dialogue has already decided one thing: it runs on நீங்க, start to finish, with no informal fallback. Tamil has two levels of “you” — nothing in between — and a bank officer meeting a customer for the first time never drifts off that formal rung, however friendly the conversation gets. This guide gives you the NAATI CCL Tamil banking vocabulary that actually appears — accounts, loans, super, tax, insurance and fraud — built around that one fact, because a candidate can nail every word here and still lose marks the moment the register slips.

Key takeaways
  • Banking dialogues run on a single formal register — நீங்க — throughout. There's no informal rung to fall back into; slipping to நீ is a marked error, not a style choice.
  • Many finance terms (mortgage, super, BSB, ATO, SWIFT, credit card) are spoken in English even inside Tamil sentences. Mirror the speaker.
  • Household amounts convert lakh/crore to Western numbers — but not every big figure does; some trade and insurance contexts are quoted in 'million' directly.
  • 'Interest' has two everyday Tamil words — வட்டி and பலிசை — and a candidate who only knows one will freeze on the other. Recognise both.

The register decision before the vocabulary: நீங்க, and nothing in between

Tamil doesn't give you a middle rung — it's a two-level system, நீங்க or நீ, and a banking dialogue only ever uses one of them. The customer and the bank officer, broker or consultant are strangers doing formal business, so every imperative, every request, every closing line stays on நீங்க — even when the topic turns personal, like a hardship conversation or a fraud report. There is no natural point in a real banking exchange where a stranger earns your நீ.

Accounts & everyday banking

Start with the foundation: opening, using and checking an account. கணக்குkanakkuaccount is the workhorse term here.

Home loans & mortgage

A loan or a debt you owe is கடன்kadanloan / debt, and a home loan is ஹோம் லோன்home lonhome loan, also heard as வீட்டுக் கடன்(veettuk kadan). “Mortgage” itself is usually kept in English — and the whole exchange, again, stays on நீங்க, since a loan interview is exactly the stranger-to-stranger relationship that register rule describes.

Interest, superannuation & tax

Interest is one of the few words on this whole vocabulary list with two equally correct everyday answers: வட்டிvattiinterest and பலிசைpalisaiinterest. The interest rate is வட்டி விகிதம்vatti vikithaminterest rate or பலிசை விகிதம் (palisai vikitham). Neither is wrong, and neither replaces the other — a real recording may use either, and a candidate who has only ever met one of them will freeze on the other. For superannuation, there is no everyday Tamil word — speakers simply say super.

EnglishTamilPronunciation

taxவரிvari

tax returnடாக்ஸ் ரிட்டர்ன்tax return

It's rarely the vocabulary. It's a register slip nobody rehearsed for, or a lakh figure that came out in the wrong system.

Money, lakhs and the digit trap

Tamil speakers commonly count in லட்சம்latcham100,000 and கோடிkodi10,000,000. In a household banking context — a home loan, a balance, a bond — convert to the Western system without hesitation:

Questions this page gets asked

No — and if a model answer you're studying does, treat that as a red flag, not a style choice. Tamil has two levels of 'you' — நீங்க and நீ — with nothing in between, and a bank officer speaking to a customer they've just met stays on நீங்க for the entire exchange, no matter how warm or informal the topic gets. Slipping to நீ is a marked register error, not a minor slip.
